According to BlackBerry, yes, 16GB is the max that you can use.

It certainly sounds like the OS will support a 32gb card, but the highest capacity micro sd card I've been able to find is 16gb. Does a 32gb card exist?

I don't see the unit being unable to take any size storage card as long as it's formatted to work with the phone.

People have already been using the 16 gig cards and I am sure a 32 or even 64 gig card would work. Why wouldn't it? It's just storage space on the card that the phone would access.

Look at the link in post 3. This has been discussed before. As you stated, you can insert whatever size card you would like in the device, however if your OS does not support that size, you will not be able to use the entire card.

For example, you're running a device on OS 4.2.2 and you place an 8 gig card in the device. The phone will only see 4 gig available and format it as a 4 gig card.

The OS needs to be able to address all the space the card has available. If the OS is only designed to address 32gb and you try to use a 64gb card one of two things will happen: either the phone will only see the first 32gb of storage, or it won't recognize the card at all.

That would make sense. I made that hypothesis on the basis of physical assumption rather than considering software limitations.

I would imagine RIM would release a second gen model with larger capacity rather than upgrading the OS to handle a higher capacity card. Isn't that normally the trend?

No. No one is selling them in the US yet. I heard that they were selling them in AU, but I haven't actually seen anyone selling them in the micro format. I am hearing that they will be available in the May/June timeframe in the US, but that is just speculation

Sandisk has been working with a lot of phone manufactures and makes a very stable product. Although any brand will work , I picked up one from google shopping 16gb microsd - Google Product Search I payed $51 for mine . I prefer using a site that has Google check out . Good luck .
