Details will help.
You bought a used Storm? The PIN is registered in Verizon and not released?
Ask the seller to call VZW and ask them to release the PIN.

I went to the page where you enter your IMEI and you PIN and I filled out the form and it came up with a window saying that the device with that pin and IMEI has already been registered.
I do know that the the guy I bought it from had used it on ATT.
I guess that I'll have to talk to him and see if he can call them.

i know im a noob at blackberry but i dont get a) Install your current OS on your BlackBerry device to your PC.
If you are using a beta OS, it must be installed on the PC. Find the most current OS release

Enter the APN as stated in the instructions. Yes, yours will have the "emgsm..." and needs to be changed per the instructions.
And, until you do this, and complete the instructions, you won't have the browser or email setup icon. Correct. That is why you must complete the instructions.

Scooter, look at your device > Options > About, third line down beginning with "v4.7xxx", that is your Operating System on your device.
Now, that OS must be installed to your PC, so find that OS from your carrier, download and install it.

JSanders, since i c you are online, question for you. I have the Storm on AT&T with .148 OS the only way I can keep EDGE at all times is by not setting he APN (i have it unchecked). Is there any issues if I don;t have it.
I can get to all my websites no problem and i get all my emails. Thanks

That is no problem. You might run across a third party application like JiveTalk or Pandora radio that wants to access the TCP/APN ports for data, and if you encounter a problem, you'll know what you need to enable.

You'll need the Service Book from ATT for the MMS transport client.
Have you followed all the directions above?

Discovered by JSanders,
My experience (and I've had quite a bit with this same AT&T "EDGE" issue) is that after the OS install or a battery pull reboot, if you go to Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options > and set the Network Mode to 2G only (not 3G and & 2G which is the default setting) you will hold EDGE solid.
After making that change to 3G only, you must return to Manage Connections > Mobile Network, an UNcheck, let the signal go off, and reenable it a minute later to catch full EDGE, sometimes 3-4x doing that may be needed.
And yes, the hybrid OS with the radio code from .90 or another OS does work well too.
Note: I'm running .148 OS, .132 radio, diabled TCP/IP settings and did the above and i have been checking randomly and watching and im solid EDGE at this moment, just checked again and watched till the screen dimmed.

I am following the steps to load the browser on my newly unlocked Storm for ATT and when I get to Shared it still shows my curve instead of OS. If I click my curve it goes to Java as described in the instructions but when opening up the DS remove APPS the browser is not in bold it is lightly shaded-if I right click it will show me the cod file I need to delete but I cant delete it that way. HELP!!!!

Supertwins, I don't understand your first sentence... "shows your curve instead of OS. If I click my curve it goes to Java..."
Help with details.

2. On the PC, go to C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\ResearchInMotion\Share d\LoaderFiles\OS version\Java.
Create a new folder and name is ATT. Find the .cod named net_rim_bb_browser_dameon and move the cod to your new folder.
Instead of showing OS version it shows my 8310(curve that I had)
This is where I'm getting hung up.....
Thanks for all the support....

Then your current Storm OS is not installed on your PC or you would see the Storm OS listed there.
Read the directions above where it states "Before you start".

First rule, read all the instructions. In the initial post of this thread:

Omar, that doesn't sound like it has anything at all to do with this thread topic of enabled GSM service on your Storm.
Please create your own thread topic for that issue.

I am thinking about getting a unlocked Storm to replace my Curve on AT&T.
I have been going over the instructions here, and it doesn't look any more difficult than the OS upgrade or the "use as a modem" process.
I have tried to search for this question, but haven't found the answer:
Will I be limited to only the OS that is already installed on the Storm when I get it, or can I update to the most current BB OS?
Also, if you can upgrade, will this whole procedure have to be done, or just the normal OS upgrade procedure?

joeybear23, you are free to use any OS release for the model you purchase. If you get the Verizon 9530, you can upgrade to the latest OS for the 9530.
And yes, when you upgrade each time, after the upgrade is complete and the OS is installed, follow the directions you find in the initial post here. I do, each time.

New account? Do you already have an account with your carrier already?
If you bought your Storm used and the Storm PIN is already registered with another carrier, you have other problems. Call the seller and tell them to release the PIN from their carrier.

Hey guys...
I thought I was pretty good with BBs, until I started trying THIS!
I cant seem to make this work. I'm going to be using my 9530 on T-Mobile. after I load the latest 9530 OS onto my comp, and go into the JAVA folder and move the rim_browser_daemon file to its own folder, I plug into my DM and go to app loader - it tells me that there are no actions to be performed.
Any ideas? I'm stumped.

You probably won't see anything happen, but follow the prompts to complete it anyway.
It will remove the browser and on reboot of the device you should see an java exception error. Ignore that and complete the steps.

If it says during Step 3 that it is INstalling the core apps, that is ok.
If it says that it is INstalling the browser, no. You haven't removed the deamon cod correctly.

I dont know how to remove the Daemon cod more correctly than the instructions say... I create a new folder. I cut the daemon file and paste it in the new folder... Then, I close out of the JAVA folder.
Is there something MORE to it than that?

Nope, that's the way, so you got it. Proceed to Step 4, unless it says it is INstalling the browser.
