But then, my "EDGE" shrinks to an "edge"...

ok, now do this (I probably should add this to instructions in the initial post, but it is mentioned in several subsequent post in this thread for this:
On your BlackBerry
1. Go to Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options > Network Mode > change 3G & 2G to be 2G only and escape out.
2. Then go to Manage Connections > Mobile Network > and UNcheck your service, wait for it to show OFF in the signal indicator area at the top of your screen.
3. Now, return to the same Manage Connections > Mobile Network > and CHECK your Mobile Network to be back enabled. You may have to do this 3-5 times, each time being patient for the OFF signal indicator. Then give the device five minutes to gain EDGE. If it doesn't rinse and repeat #2 and 3 here.
You should be ok from there once it reaches EDGE again.

Did you try my suggestions above, you didn't comment on it, unless that was the hack referred to.
It does work. I know it does.

J...
I've narrowed it down to JUST MY BROWSER... All of my 3rd party apps work with EDGE.
Does that mean that your steps were not completed successfully?

It will work if you follow it step by step... did you encounter any problem in the process?
What is the signal indicator on your device now?

going from edge to EDGE is good... that is what you want.
Did you read this whole thread.... about 7-8 posts up, this in particular:

5. Go to C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\ResearchInMotion\Share d\Loader\OS version\Java then to the folder you created named ATT. Right click the module > Cut.
Go back to main Java folder and paste it back.
ON THIS STEP DOES THE ATT FOLDER GETS PASTED BACK IN THE JAVA FOLDER OR OUTSIDE THE JAVE FOLDER ?

ok, you "tried it" what? I just directed you to change the 3G to 2G, is that the "it" you tried?
If you can be specific and with details, we can help you.
I have no idea who the SMS is from. That has nothing to do with this.
For the service books, go to your BIS login page and resend the service books per Step #7

Please stop typing in ALL CAPS. It is considered SHOUTING in internet forums.
You don't paste the ATT Folder, just the browser daemon cod file alone. No where in the directions does it say to paste the folder back.

This does work on the latest DM, or Desktop Manager. I am more than sure.
In your case, you have not followed the instructions to load and install your OS to your PC first. When you do, you will show the Shared\Loader\OSversion folders

Hey Joey,
So I can get mine to stay at EDGE when the APN settings are 'disabled'. Is there any way to keep it at EDGE when the APN is 'enabled'? Right now, as soon as I check APN settings enabled, it goes to edge.
Thanks,
Corey

My APN is enabled, I've tried it both ways and that doesn't seem to make a difference for me.
Have you tried the 2G setting only?

Yeah, it's set for 2G Only and I tried turning my connection on and off at least 10 times. It will go to EDGE for about a minute and then right back to edge.

What OS are you on?
For the heck of it, I loaded the BBOS site's Hybrid v7 the other day, first time I've tried one of his OS mixes, and I really like it so far for EDGE.

Well I must have the same problem then, because I cant get shared loader os version folders either. I thought that the disk that came with my phone had all that on it. When I downloaded it, it said it was 4.7, and I have desk manager loaded, so what am I not doing?

Your disk contains only the desktop manager install and not the Operating system for the blackberry..You will need to download that on your own and install it on your PC. Check the instructions again as it has a link to get the latest OS for your storm. After installing the OS you should then have those folders. PM me if you have questions..PIN is in my sig..to the left

It's easy enough for the user to ask right here in the thread.
Of course, they need to read and fully follow the instructions here first.

After the unlock? Unlocking your device should be done before any of these instructions are followed.
Otherwise, if you don't have a browser, you haven't completed all the steps, or haven't pushed back the service books at the end of the process.

hey jsanders, i followed your instructions AFTER my phone was unlocked. The browser and several other apps disappeared after the unlock though. I think the .cod module did do its thing in the update process (since there is no formal msg) and i did go to the site and had the service books resent to me. Am i suppose to get a confirmation of some sort?
Anyway, here is the msg i got wheen trying to access the internet.
"your device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries. please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device."

Flyguy, yes, when you send the service books, you will see one activation message for each email account you have configured on the BIS account.
I don't think you have completely followed the directions in the tutorial. I don't know which other than you just need to start over again from the beginning.

A Bit Confused... -
07-12-2009, 03:04 PM
Hi! I'm having a little trouble with this and was wondering if I could get some help.
I have a Storm 9530 on T-Mobile.
The problem I am having seems to be with Step 3...
I have gone through the entire steps twice. The first time, nothing seemed to happen even after I did the additional steps (10-12). The second time nothing seemed to happen again, but after I performed steps 10-12 the lowercase "edge" which had been in the corner changed to "GSM" and I still had no internet functionality. I then tried 10-12 again and the "GSM" changed back to the lowercase "edge" and I still have no internet.
I followed all steps exactly, however at #3 (The App Loader Add/Remove Programs - where i get tripped up a bit) this is what I see:
If I scroll down I see where it says "Browser" however it is shaded gray and I cannot change it at all:
I don't see anywhere to remove the dameon module, but if I select "Browser" and then click "Details" I do see it under that menu, but cannot access it:
Am I in the wrong place? Am I doing this completely wrong? Please help! Thanks!

JJ, you don't remove the browser in the APP Loader window, you physically CUT and PASTE the browser daemon using some File Manager software, as in "My Computer".
Read back through that section of the directions again.
Step 2, you cut and past the file to the ATT folder (or whatever you named it).
Step 3, you run apploader to remove the browser from your device. You don't need to check/uncheck anything here. Just hit NEXT.

HELP. What Version of Dm shoulf be used fot the ATT -
07-17-2009, 01:25 PM
After having some issues with the Storm that I purchased, I have gone through the process step by step and still have an issue here of there.
1: Unlocked the BB Storm that I purchased via ebay and tested core functions phone, etc without issue
2: Followed the thread >>Attention: Latest 9530 OS: 4.7.0.208/4.7.0.151 (Multilanguage) and installed the newest version without issue
3: Now I am working on the thread titled: >>Unlocked Storm on AT&T or T-Mobile
That is where my issue starts.
On The On AT&T, follow these directions section I have performed steps 1 and 2. It is step 3 that is causing issues.
The desktop software I have is version 4.7 and when I connect and try to attempt to perform;
>>Plug in device and open DM > AppLoader > Add/Remove Programs and work your way through the process to remove the net_rim_bb_browser_dameon module.
Close DM on completion.
The individual module(s) DO NOT SHOW. Am I missing something or should I be using a differnt version of DM
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx
Jeff

Your version of DM is ok. Continue the process and don't mess with selecting anything in the App Loader, just hit next and let it do its business.
