I set up th eunlocked storm yesterday, according to these instructions, and everything worked fine.
This morning, however, I accidentally hit the "wireless update" button, and now it is back on verizon and will not go back to ATT.
any help?
I tried going through the whole process agaian, but it doesn't want to go back. Also, when I set the APN settings, it will not save at all.

Steps not working (not from a lack of following the instructions) -
07-23-2009, 07:08 PM
I have gone through the steps and keep getting stuck on #3. I have been on this forum and a long time and always followed the instructions to the T, but this one is not working. I have the 9530 and it currently has .148 on it. I am using the new DM 5.0.0.11
There is one detail that should be corrected. I know its symantecs, but, in the instructions for T-Mobile, you say create an ATT folder. Why not a TMO folder. Or does it have it be ATT??
I have downloaded the servicebooks, installed .148 device OS on the PC. Went to the folder, moved the browser daemon file. Started DM. It said it found a new OS, did a compare and found nothing new to add. Now, here is where the instructions are different. There is no Next button. You have to click on Options to get to where you can install or uninstall other software. In there the "Browser" is greyed out. Even though you can click it and the checkmark eventually go away, clicking next takes you through the install or uninstall process. There's no sign of a browser daemon removal. Following the instructions, I disconnect DM, then start it back up. Before I do that I go in to the Options->Advanced Settings->applications on the 9530 and the browser daemon is still installed.
JSanders, can you check the instructions and make sure they work with the newest version of DM. Or do I need to go to an older version of DM for your instructions to work.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Andrej770

I finally got this to work. I didn't do anything different on the 6th try than I did on the first 5 but it eventually worked. I learned from another forum that in order to get EDGE to stay EDGE and not edge, that you have to clear the APN settings completely. As soon as I put it back on it goes from EDGE to edge; not sure why. I don't do streaming or a lot of surfing, I just need my email.
Thanks JSanders for the great instructions.

@andrej770, thanks, glad you got it all sorted out. I don't have to remove the APN settings, but if it works for you...
Also, I will make the change to the TMO instructions. They are basically the same, I just copied and pasted!

ON the BlackBerry, you need the Data Plan for the MMS.

JSanders, thanks again for the information.
You are very helpful.
Now, how about using i as a tethered modem on ATT?
Is the procedure the same? I am having trouble connecting.

ON the BlackBerry, you need the Data Plan for the MMS.

on the 9530 you need a data plan.
works fine on the 9000/8900/8310/8110.

It is not device-specific. Even on ATT, you need the data plan for MMS messages to carry the data part of the MMS, on the 9000, 8900, 8310 and 8110, etc.

Because you have not installed the OS to your PC yet. Either that reason, or you are not looking in the correct folders.

Nothing in DM... you should see Backup/Restore, Sync, Application Loader, etc.
After opening DM, click on App Loader > Add/Remove Programs. Your App Loader may not notice any changes, but continue the steps... and at the end of the process you should see some text about updating core software, removing browser daemon , etc.

ok i see what you're talking about through the DM but when i got into it and followed the directions i was unable to find anything that said net_rim_bb_browser_dameon module The only thing i saw that was anything related to this was just "broswer" and there was no way of clicking on it

OK, once you have performed Step 2, (removing the browser daemon cod from the java folder) and run Step 3, there is nothing for you to do in step 3 other than to run App Loader. The App Loader will recognize that the browser daemon cod has been removed from the java folder, not see it, and remove it from the handheld device. Just click next. and continue. During that next process the App Loader will run and you will see (if you look quickly) the browser daemon being removed.
Then, the BlackBerry will reboot, sometimes slowly. On reboot you should (might) see a java error on the BlackBerry screen.

Proceed to step 4. the Java error I mentioned above is supposed to be there (because you have DELETED the browser from the Storm). You will be installing it back very shortly

In step 8, you want to enter that information yourself for the TCP/APN settings.
The TCP/APN settings will NOT get your browser back, it only helps with third party apps and APN access.
If you still haven't got the browser, you've goofed up on one of the Step 1-7.
Did you load the Service Books in step 4?

Have you pushed the service books to your device as in Step 7?
Not that I am not asking IF the service books are on the device, but if you actually loaded the service books from your PC via the Restore > Advanced window in step 4, and did the push of the SBs in step 7.
All must be done.

Then, if you have no browser option, it's not complete. Something was missed.
I can't say what was missed, I don't know, it's a long tedious process, I know.
Did you load the browser daemon cod back to the java folder and rerun App Loader?
Are you getting EDGE or edge on the device?
And for the MMS, that is a service book issue, so it will relate back to completing all the steps in the instructions.
It's just hard for me to determine where you went wrong without sitting over your shoulder watching you do it. The best I can do is to say, just do it all again... from Step 1 on down all the way, you can't skip a step or do it out of order.
