Default Storm OS install..help for a newb

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, Im sure this is a dumb question for you, but for some reason after I downloaded the .109 OS from Bell and 2x clicked on it I am being asked what program to use to run it. am I missing something here?

I have the 4.7 Desktop manager installed and have backed up my device.

My 9530 has v4.7.0.75 (platform 4.0.0.94.

I feel like a jerk....

Which version of Windows are you running? In any event, you may have to upgrade the windows installer program. If it is an .exe (which it should be) then it should open up fine. The only thing that I can think of is that the file you downloaded is corrupted. If it is not an .exe, try editing the name and putting ".exe" at the end of it. I know that use to work back in Windows 98se, but who knows

You shouldn't need to change the extension. The filename should be
9530AMEA_PBr4.7.0_rel109_PL4.0.0.96_A4.7.0.76_Bell _Mobility.exe

OK all, Im at the step where I am being asked to complete the application loader and telling me what it will do.. remove apps, , re install them bla bla, etc. Im also being told that I will have to activate my device wirelessly to continue to send and receive messages and use other blackberry services..

activating it wirelessly means what? I have Verizon as a carrier so does that mean the *228 programming again?

thanks for helping

You shouldn't have to dial *228 to reactivate. You should just need to resend your service books. In all the times I've activated devices I've never needed to.

Did install last night, am very happy. One issue I came up with this morning while trying out verizon navigator for the first time (free first month). I get some weird keyboard issues, like number keys tying letters and vise versa. some missing keys as well it seems. I did a battery pull like everyone recommends and we will see i guess. are there any issues wit this "glitch"? wondering if it is OS related because I never really upgraded OS before and neither have I used the navigator feature

think im gonna have a lot of fun here, great site and info

Not too sure on the VZNav as I've never used it. See if the battery pull fixes it or not then post back. If not, I am sure someone with experience will help you out.

I don't think AmazeGPS will work on a Verizon device. They tend to lock down GPS on all applications except BBMaps and VZNav. I think the Storm can use GPS on the most recent version of Google Maps. I think those are the only options available to Verizon users.
