Default Scratched Screen?

Please Login to Remove!

I've heard things like the screen on the Storm cannot be scratched, but i have a pretty nice gash on mine. Although, I never took that plastic film off that comes with the phone. Do you think that film is scratched instead of the actual screen? I'd like to take it off to find out but then i'm leaving my screen open for more terror if I do.

pearlinSen,

go to your VZW store and buy a pack of those 3 for $10 screen protectors.

Then peel off your factory screen protector and assess the matter. Most likely the glass is not scratched. Wipe it down with a lint free cloth and place one of those screen protectors on afterwards.

You'll be fine brother. I am sure.

My current Storm has the factory screen protector still on it. It's got all sorts of nicks and dings. On my next free day I am going to peel it off and place on the final segment of my Phantom Skinz thin skin. If it negatively affects screen sensitivity, then I am going back to the cheap VZW screen protectors. I used one before OVER the factory screen protector and it was fine.

I've had my storm for about a month or more now, and I have never used any form of a screen protector. So far my screen is 100% scratch free.

#1. Your Storm comes with a factory screen protector that will show wear as time goes by. Today my Storm slipped off my car console and landed between the seat and console. When I retrieved it there was a nice gouge upper right center. NICE

#2. Be smart and don't take a set of keys or a knife to your Storm screen. Of course it takes alot to scratch glass, but it can be done. No need to test things. A friend accidentally tapped his Storm screen on a wine glass and there is a nice chink in the glass screen. Still functionally but doesn't look all that nice. The Storm screen CAN be chipped and scratched on accident, so don't be foolish and actually try.

#3. If you are a workerbee, meaning you don't sit all day in an office / desk environment wearing nice clothes with the a/c kickin, put some protection on your Storm screen. Even the cheap screen protectors are great. I've got my Storm covered with Phantom Skinz and it's takin' a lickin'. But much like Timex, it's still tickin'!

My blackberry 9500 one month old now. For the first two weeks I used it with factory sealed film, at the end of two weeks film was full of scratch. Then I took off the film, since two weeks I don't have any protector on the screen: no scratch, I can write much better and faster. I didn't understand why RIM deliver with very low quality screen protector film.

I've never heard of leaving the factory screen protectors on. I've always just considered them part of the packaging and remove them immediately.

harder to scratch glass than plastic, but it can be done...with a diamond or sharp piece of metal....

i do have a question: what is the purpose of those micro dots on the display ? are they indentations in the glass, or markings ?

Don't confuse the heavy protective disposable [blue] screen protector that comes with the phone and the actual factory installed screen protector in the glass. I'd be willing to guess that most users of the storm don't even know there is a screen protector on their glass already and if they installed an aftermarket protector went right over the top. I left mine on for a little over 3 months before it got in a fight with my keys one day in a bag. The keys won BTW I was quite happy knowing there was a factory screen protector on there and actually miss that one as I have a Zaggs now and I'm not overly impressed. I went about 12-14 days with no screen protection and aside from being paranoid around scratching it I thought it was great. I'm considering pulling the rubbery Zaggs off and going commando.

I picked the Phantom Skinz after lots of personal research. This included handling a Storm with the ZAGG Shield on it.

The PS skin has a much different feel than ZAGG. It's not sticky to the touch and its not a lint magnet like the ZAGG. I have a ZAGG shield on my iPod Nano but the Nano is always attached to my arm in the gym. But occasionally when it comes out of my gym back its full of lint and fragments of my training gear (knee wraps, towel, etc). The ZAGG is perfect for smaller high use stuff but not for phones IMO.

You can PEEL the PS off your phone up to 5 minutes after initial application but beyond that peeling is permanent. However, you do get two full sets of skins with your PS purchase. Remember to use the CRACK20 promo code when you buy it too for $5 off.

Do you have the factory installed screen protector on there?
