Default Is the storm right for me? Current Curve User...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Just trying to get some real world user experience here, I have done a tone of research on these devices as of late and am thinking of making a move.

I have been a blackberry user since the last 4 generations of phone, have gone through the sure type and full 7x, 8x, Curve and now considering either a storm or a bold.

I am concerned a bit with the slow UI mostly, not so much about typing, I do text a bit, nothing out of the ordinary, but why I am considering the storm is email.

I am a bit different maybe than most, I over see a few ecommerce sites and receive roughly 300+ emails daily, however, I do not reply to these emails, I simply review and read, occasionally I will type an email or reply, but my primary functions are reading and texting.

This is what lead me to consider a storm, wide screen landscape view with html email for reading purposes sounds great.

But, I have played with the device for a minute when it first came out and new it had its share of issues, but the speed of loading apps and menu's has me a bit concerned.

I had actually considered an iphone since 3.0 software adds a great deal of needed functionality, but the thought of swiping emails to delete is scary, some time I left a week go by on my curve and do not delete, thats 2100 emails, imagine having to swipe all those one by one, yikes...

So anyway, how are your storms, how is menu speed these days, stability etc?

Any info would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Had my Storm since the day it came out...so hopefully I can offer some opinions:

First off, I'm far from a Storm "fanboy". For *MY* use, I wish I'd never gotten it. Part of that is due to lack of OS updates to make it better. Not as big of a fan for the touch screen typing (emails/texts) as I thought I'd be. Some people can adjust to the virtual keyboard, I haven't been able too. That is my fault...not the phones, and I'd have the same issues with an iToy.

That being said, if you upgrade the OS to at least the .113 (which is rumored to be the new "official" in the next few days) you'll find it's MUCH better (lag wise) than what you've played with in the stores. If you do take the leap, that would be the absolute first thing I'd do.

Now I'm not meaning to totally scare you away from the Storm. Judging by what you stated your use would be, I think it would be a very viable option for you. Main reason is...I do absolutely love the screen. If most of your email use is simply reading (and not replying) I think you'd love it. Screen is awesome. And as I stated, provided you update the OS, a lot of the stability issues have at least gotten better (but far from perfect).

Hope this helps in some small way.

.113 definately made this phone a keeper for me. Been a week since upgrade and still no resets. The UI is still as fluid and lagless as well. .75 was horrible. .113 is great

Thanks for the reply,

I have been reading about things on the beta OS, I would just wait till its live to give the phone a test drive.

For me the *main* reason I am considering the storm aside from my usage listed above is that the wide screen would be nice for reading, and the phone is a good deal smaller than the bold.

Coming from a 8800 which was like a calculator on your ear to the curve was a great move, and very satisfying in terms of a product purchase, so when I saw the bold was so large again, even larger than an 8800 I was like, this is nearly a step backward if not for the feature upgrades.

So its a tough call.

I have herd fantastic things about the bold though, so I wanted to get some storm users insight.

I have a buddy who has one (he does not live near me) who loves it, however he was an oldschool nextel BB user, so for his purpose the thing must be godly..

Thanks again!

I am relatively new to the Storm but I would not consider myself a happy user. I have not been able to install the .113 update, but I am hoping it DRAMATICALLY changes the phone. I find the storm to be sluggish in a number of aspects. I also found it silly I had to put a piece of paper behind the battery in order to make the screen operate correctly on the corners. But again, I have only been using the phone for about two weeks.

I would not recommend this phone to anyone at this point in time. I am just thankful I only paid $3.50 for mine.

I myself run several websites which led me to the Blackberry a few years back. I have recently upgraded to the Storm and have been extremely happy with it. I run 6 email accounts on my Storm and reading & tracking them is very nice with the big screen.

Yesterday I turned on my old 8703e to grab a number and was astonished at how small the screen was compared to to Storm. Yes I knew the screen was smaller, but until I actually used it, it was like WOW how'd I do all that stuff on that small screen.

My personal opinion is to go to the Storm. I Just upgraded to .113 and this OS is very nice and smooth

YMMV, but I find the screen size, email, and Verizon performance plus tethering outweigh other issues. As a sys admin I've set up users Curves and they're fine, but at this point I'm too spoiled by large screen.
