Default Best solution for 9530 that locks up or reboots several times a day

Please Login to Remove!

Tech support had me delete app data (after backing up using Desktop Manager). Then they resent some service books IIRC, and had me restore data from the DM. THey also had me delete 3rd party apps (slacker and Viigo). The problems went away for almost 24 hours, but are back again. Unit spontaneously reboots to white screen and then I have to wait for several minutes while it restarts the OS. This is very frustrating. I'd heard that most of the problems with the OS were behind them, with the current update. My wife's 9530, also purchased last week, doesn't reboot but I think I go into more apps like the media player, camera, browser, etc. I'm wondering if its simply the extra workload on put on the Storm that causes reboots. SHe mostly uses it to message on the BBM, and to do voice calls.

Should I press for another unit, or hope the next OS release (before my 30 days are up) fixes this stuff? I have 3 weeks left, to decide.

I didn't have it for more than an hour when it froze. I was using VZNav, it had just given me the first turn, when I pulled the charger cord out. The moment the charger cord was removed, the VZN screen disappeared and I was back to a frozen home screen with the VZN icon "lit up" in blue. No functions would work so we pulled the battery to get it working again (actually the verizon store folks did it).

Since then I've had flashing controls appear/disappear on the music and video player screens. I had to pull the battery to stop that nonsense.

I got a reboot from starting up the browser today.

There have been other issues as well--I can't recall them all.

Software or bad hardware???

Have you tried the latest OS's in the stickies at the top of this forum? If that doesn't fix it and you've removed all 3rd party apps and themes I'd try exchanging the unit.

I would request a new phone not one of thier cerified phones in store will give you a new phone online or over phone tech support will try to send you a recertified phone.

My understanding is that if the reboots are as often as you say it is most likely hardware related.

But you may try a clean wipe and start new with only OS apps installed

do setup and then resend your service books

But as i said before what i have read leads me to say get a new replacement

If they are shipping it to you make syre it is new not recertified that way your not getting someone elses issues i had two previuos storms one DOA and another Touch did not function before i got one that seems to work after some tweaks

Good Luck

I got a new handset last Friday. Just last night, I experienced 2 reboots within 5 minutes. The screen went white with a very small message in the center that I couldn't read fast enough. Very frustrating. It just rebooted again a few minutes ago. I think I might have to exchange it again. At least I'm still within the initial 30-day "satisfaction guaranteed" period with Verizon.

What OS are you running on the device?

Since they gave me the replacement handset, I have not had a chance to upgrade the OS. It is still 4.7.0.75/4.0.0.94.

On my previous handset (before the exchange) I did upgrade and did not experience the problem but somehow lost the ability to sync and backup the phone with my desktop which is very important for my work.

I would upgrade the OS. That will clear up your issues. It should not affect your ability to sync your device.

OK done. It only took about 15-20 min. That was faster than on the prev handset for some reason. Also the calendar items would not restore, so I had to manually restore with Desktop Manager. Weird.

I will know better if the reboots are still happening with usage over the weekend. I have just 7 more days to evaluate this while on the 30-day period.

20 mins is very quick. Let us know how things go.
