Default Non-Ergonomic Keyboard Layouts

Please Login to Remove!

OK I'm still new to the Storm. Not even a week. BUT... Does anyone else think it's really astoundingly stupid of BB designers to not have a decimal or period key available when the Landscape Mode keyboard is in NUM LOCK mode? Or a space key? If I'm typing a bunch of numbers that have decimal values, it's such a pain to have to go out of Num Lock mode just to get a period or a space to separate the values.

Also I have noticed that when typing phone numbers in Portrait Mode, you have to hit ABC to get parentheses and spaces, and you have to hit SYM to get a dash. Plus when you hit ABC in this mode, it goes into Alpha Caps Lock so you have to disable that before you can type a number in. Meanwhile, the characters available in the SYM keyboard are just "+" and "-" and the rest of the keys are disabled. With all that extra space, why not just put "space" and paren's right there. Unbelievable.

These two issues have made it very unfriendly for me so far.

I can make no sense of their keyboard layouts. Not intuitive at all. Wouldn't you think symbols would all be under...... wait for it.... symbols?

What about a .com button to make entering web sites easier in the browser...

Lumberman: When I hit Space twice, it technically converts the first space to a period, and the second space is still there, so in your solution, I would still have to hit backspace to clear that extra space. If you're typing prices like "9.99", that means you would hit 9, space, space, backspace, 9, 9. Also not ergonomic but seems to be the only viable solution for now. Guess that works for now in that scenario. Thanks.

Yeah I know. Seems like so many compromises. Guess it's the price to pay for fewer buttons and a larger screen (than a BB Curve). The time it takes for me to type on the Storm is easily double how much time it takes me to write on a Curve, and I am able to type without looking on a Curve -- not so with Storm where there is just too much stuff going on.

I have 24 days to decide if I'm keeping it, or if I'm returning it with the Verizon "30-Day Satisfaction Guaranteed" policy (without early termination fee).
