Default Are BB Messenger texts free internationally?

Please Login to Remove!

I thought I had read that users in different countries incurred no costs for BBMs, but is that true? If so, does that also mean that they don't count as data?

They are not. I thought so too and I threw out the question and was reliably informed that it isn't free. I don't remember the link for the thread, but search for threads that I post in and you'll find it.

But the answer is no they are not free. Unfortunately!

This depends on what the OP means by "internationally".

If he means sending a BBM whilst roaming, then no, they are not free. See here:
BB Messenger

If he means sending a BBM from one's home country to another BlackBerry user in a different country, then yes, that is free.

Obviously, the ability to send any messages through BBM is dependent on the user having a BlackBerry data plan.

Correct. That clarification is key. Roaming NOT free. Home country to anywhere FREE.

Do some carries not offer "international data plans" for Blackberries? Still wouldn't be "free" (as you would pay more for the plan), but there wouldn't be the huge surprise roaming charges when the bill comes in.

Never mind, re-read the link and found the answer there.

Must have coffee.

There are plenty apps that allow you to send FREE international SMS messages from your phone. Some require internet access.

Google and ye shall find.

This is not germane to this thread.

It in fact compounds the problem . He's trying to find a way to communicate without incurring cost. Using an online SMS service will incur costs.

And is in no way related to BlackBerry Messenger, which was my main point.
