go to phone screen and typ ##000000. You change the number in there.
as far as sos. Go to Manage connections. Mobile Network Options. Change global to GSM. Then change to only 2G.
Hope that helps.
edit. If you need to remove the net browser, find a program called crackutil. When you find it you will also find instructions how to use it. Or you could just remove the file from its folder. Programs (or programs86) commin files, RIM, shared, "your OS" and java. Make sure you copy to somewhere you will remember. then put it back once you load all the service books. PM me if you need help.

I upgraded to the latest OS and thought I'll load the AT&T service books next so I inserted my AT&T SIM into the phone. Now, after boot up, the phone displays a 1XEV signal. The native phone number displayed when I make calls is the previous owner's verizon number and the caller ID on the receiving phone displays the previous number as well. I am able to access the web as well, etc. I'm confused..AT&T SIM but making calls on Verizon number? How do I get the phone to use my service?
Thanks for your help in advance.
