Browsing here last night I clicked on the BB-APPS Store and found an inexpensive little app. called Mileage Meter from Thinkomatics (MileageMeter v2.02 by thinkomatics ). Just the very thing to keep track of the mileage on my new Forester. Just exactly the way I used MPG Log on my Palm M515 a decade ago with my old Forester.

Downloaded (and paid) and after several entries the screen had a message that the "trial" version only allowed 8 entries.

Went back and downloaded a 2nd time via email and, after deleting the app, did a new install. I used the Registration Key provided in the email (it is the same as appears on my invoice). Now the app only appeared in "phone" (portrait) mode with no turn to landscape. And all the dta I entered the first time was still there. When I tied to enter and change the date, there were all sorts of problems. So I deleted the app again and, using the DM's utility I also cut the little folder "GasCalc" --but I saved it elsewhere, just in case. With my Storm apparently empty of anything "Thinkomatic" I downloaded again with the same unfortunate result.

Is there something I missed, or not done correctly? With this kind of luck I surely will not try to upgrade the OS --at least not until I'm more proficient with the necessary procedure. I'd appreciate any assistance.

My problem with MileageMeter has been CURED!! This little application works just fine now. And the reason it does is because of the amazing support I've received from the folks at Thinkomatics!

Less than a day after my original post I had a reply and a Thinkomatic support person helped me through the steps necessary to make this application work. The problem centered on the "Compatibility Mode" setting. Once disabled, the app ran like a champ.

I should add that while this is a very simple, inexpensive application it does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it very well. I was looking for a BB replacement for the "MPG log v3.0" (by Jeremy Atherton, UK) that I used for many years on my Palm M515. MileageMeter fits the bill and, with its displays of statistics and charts, adds even more utility.

But what is even more impressive is that it is a little application with tremendous support. In the decade I've been using PDAs and visiting forums, I've never had such a positive experience directly from the software developer. This situation reminds me of the problem I had back in the late 80's with a BeagleBros patch for Appleworks. I called the listed support number and found myself speaking with Randy Brandt himself. Its nice to know that while the technology has advanced light years from the 80's, there are still creative folks out there with a willingness to help and support ALL users from all levels of expertise.
