Default UI Problem - Try looking up contacts to make a call

Please Login to Remove!

Verizon Storm 4.7.0.75:
Tell me if I'm missing something obvious:

Today due to an emergency I had to quickly look up a number in my contacts list to call a person on their mobile phone number. I pressed the phone (green) button and selected the contacts book. I entered the person's name and the display showed more than 1 entry. The problem was that the display did not indicate which entry(s) had that person's mobile phone number. It only shows names.

Problem 2: Worse - If you press a contact entry and it does not contain the number that you need, pressing return (back arrow key) puts you all the way back to the start of the list, where you have to painfully re-enter the name again!

Is this the way the Product Manager designed this feature in his/her spec?

You sure sound like you are NOT doing things right.

1. For you to see the phone numbers under each contact you should highlight the contact (using the track ball) and the number(s work, home, mobile, etc) are shown if they exist. You then highlight the number and press the green button to call the number. If you highlight a contact and no number is shown then the problem is in your contacts. Your contacts might need some house cleaning. You need to delete this contact or merge different contact details (email, phone, etc) into a single contact. You may also want to disallow duplicate names in contacts. Set this up in your contact options. Also remember the way you save your contacts should help you search them up in future. It's like junk in junk out. Blackberry incrementally searches names (First, Last and Company) narrowing down the list of matches as you type more.

On your 2nd problem, you should use the delete key [DEL] instead of the return (back arrow) key. The return key is like a cancel key not a correction key. You then won't have to type the whole name again. You don't have to (press and hold the green key) go into your contacts to make a call, just press the green key, then type the name, then highlight contact in the list, then highlight number then click the trackball to call the number.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your feedback, but the Storm doesn't have a trackball or delete key. Highlighting an entry doesn't display the numbers. So, it sounds like this used to work on the keyboarded phones but is broken on the Storm?

Not at all. The storm does not have a trackball.

The OP was right. The interface is rubbish.
