Default Radio is off????

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone tell me what this is and what is happening? My Storm got to about 4% battery life and I shut it off. When I plugged it in, I tried replying to a text message and I got "Radio is off. You will only get to save the message" or whatnot... What gives?

Ok, I did a battery pull and the "radio" came back. Does this "radio" turn off when you get to a certain point in the battery life or something?

Yes, exactly.

Wirelessly posted (MY 8900)

That is entirely correct. The reason behing this Is because it is a "business phone". It shut off the radio to allow the business man or woman to still be able to read saved emails, check calendar, do some memos, etc.

There actually is an app to prevent this. I think I saw it over at the crackberry shop. It is called something like "forceradio on". I didn't check the compatability, but you might want to look into it if u want to turn that feature off

It shuts it off because the power is low and radio needs more power. In addition, tts a real pain in the arse to plug the phone in to the power socket and still not be able to turn on the radio for up to 5 minutes when the battery is deemed charged enough to enable the radio! Very inconvenient when you plug in the charger in a cafe to make a quick call or go online.

Thank you guys for the information... I will check out that app. I was texting all day and my phone amazingly lasted about 8 hours on one charge. I would say that that is about right. A Verizon rep said that if I got 8 hours just texting then that is REALLY good. I had a couple phone calls, but it was mostly text, and I am talking about a LOT of texting. Yes but this radio thing is not really a problem. I just thought it was a problem with my phone.

I think that the .148 changelog said that one of the fixes allowed the radio to be turned on if the BB was being charged. I could be wrong though. It's one reason I'm installing .148 as soon as I'm back from the U.K. and can upgrade.
