Default Bring up an OLD topic, AIM = Data or SMS?

I searched and found a thread but almost every other reply was 50/50 Some say the AIM and Yahoo IM programs under Instant Messenger icon on the Storm uses SMS, others say it uses DATA. I would LOVE to know the 200% correct answer on this, please. Anyone? Thanks.
