Default Application Memory 0.0MGs... Help!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, new to BB Storm, New to the forum. Love the phone so far, upgraded my verizon account from an old LG clam shell. I have noticed from time to time things do get a little slow. I've tried removing apps, changing ringtones and adjusting other options.

This is my questions, why is it sometimes when I got to options\memory my app memory is at 0.0, other times (when I notice the phone is running fast) it may say 27.0, 10.0 ect. I noticed that yes you can "exit" a application and it will still run until you officially close it. I have google maps, a other GPS program among others on there. Do some apps constantly open them selves to gather information? Like for instance, I have a weather app that on the desktop icon displays the current temp HI/LO ect. From experience with desktops PCs I know if you have something constantly running and pulling bandwidth it will slow down the computer - is this the same case? I just love it when it runs fast but from time to time it will slow down, not lock up but slow down and low and behold the app memory states 0.0MGs -

ANY information will be greatly appreciated - I'm still learning on this phone but if you think I could help with any other questions fire away!

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

You should keep all your music, ringtones, pictures, etc on the SD card and not stored on the device itself.

Also, when you finish using an app, make sure you use "CLOSE" to end it and not just exit out, particularly ones that are data intensive, such as map applications, etc. Any app that runs (the weather app is one) will eat bandwidth ont eh BB, just as it does on a PC, but the result is probably more dramatic on the BB since bandwidth, processing power and memory are more limited.

Speed is also dependent on the connection itself, your distance to the tower and tower congestion, which are all really out of your control.

ok that's a start - thank you very much for your input! I'm going to remove the weather app, I have a shortcut to weather.com so that should be enough, I honestly don't need to know the exact temperature every time I look down at my phone, I just thought it was kinda cool when I got the phone -

Can you move all media (ringtones, music ect.) through the phone or do I need to hook it up via USB onto my PC? I know I've already put all my MP3s onto the micro SD card just because of that reason -

Again thanks for the help, any more ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I will update the thread after I make the above changes in case it may help others.

ANOTHER QUESTION I JUST THOUGHT OF -

Is there any way to tell what processes are running on the Storm? like a the "Task Manager" on a PC?? That way I could pin point what is soaking up all this memory.

Restarting the device will free up memory, as open applications are closed during the restart. Continue to check the app memory throughout the day. Like Dub said make sure to Exit or Close applications when not in use.

Thanks again for everyones help -

I still need to know if I can "manage" my media through the BB, or do I have to hook it up to a pc to transfer all my ringtones, pics, media ect. to the mass storage?

Also, if you have Facebook 1.6 installed, many people experience a bad memory leak that results in what you're dealing with. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it a few times to test, so I'm leaving it off my phone until a new build is released.
