Are you part of a corporate BES service? Do you get BlackBerry service via your company? If so then they probably have a policy in place that has deactivated your BlackBerry messenger. You will not be able to use BlackBerry messenger unless you ask your BES admin to allow it.

If you're not, then the phone was probably on a BES and the policy is still in effect and needs to be removed.

Can you get IM to other carriers as well or does it just have to be from people that are on your network? I have Verizon and tried to get a friend of mine on my IM from TMobile, but nothing ever happened.

You can get BlackBerry messenger I'm from any carrier anywhere in the world. I got BlackBerry messenger contacts from people in Anguilla, Canada, Nigeria, UK, USA and I'm in Jamaica, so that's fine.

Maybe when you updated the OS you unchecked the BlackBerry messenger option. You might have to do the upgrade process over again and then make sure to go in the advanced option to make sure the BlackBerry messenger is checked.

I responded to your other post about IM's but I believe that I may have misunderstood. Are looking to compose PIN messages or are you looking to use an IM client (Yahoo messenger, AOL messenger and the like)???

For PIN messages, you will need the PIN number of the person you are sending the message to. It is not vendor restricted. Any BB can PIN message any other BB. There is a way to PIN message without the icon on your home screen. Select your "Messages" folder/Options/Compose PIN.

Did you recently change your theme? Try setting the device back to the default theme and see if your Blackberry Messenger icon returns
