Default Trouble with Num Lock

Please Login to Remove!

I use Excel a fair amount on my Storm, so I need to use the numeric keyboard a fair amount. I have noticed that in both .70 & .148 that the num lock doesn't work as well I would like it to. My understanding is as follows:

If I want to type a single digit number press the "numbers key" once, the keyboard will then convert from an alphabet keyboard to a numeric one (with some special characters too). When I press the number it appears on screen then the keyboard changes back to an alphabetic keyboard.

However, If I want to type a number that has more than one digit, I should hold down the "numbers key", it will change to a numeric keyboard - just like before - but in the top right hand corner of the screen, a little box with the numbers "123" will appear, as long as that box stays there I can type numbers. This is my understanding, not my experience.

My experience is that I will press and hold down the "numbers key", the box will appear and I will get a numeric keyboard. But when I press a number on the keyboard it appears on the screen, then the keyboard reverts to an alphabetic one. It is only after it reverts and I hold down the "numbers key " again that the keyboard remains a numeric keyboard for multiple keystrokes. It is a bit annoying. How do I fix it?
