Can't see new SMS or Emails?

Hello there

My husbands phone broke so we replaced it with a new one. All the information was switched over to the new phone. He is getting emaisl and SMS but when we open the folders we do not see any of them. Only the old ones.
Do I have to configure any settigsn to be able to see them?

Please help!

Did you re-send the service books?
Have you done the fix-all battery pull?
