Can someone please explain to me why when I do a back up it doesn't restore the programs if I upgrade the OS? Very frustrating I must say!

It should. Are you wiping the device before you upgrade?
If so... don't do that.

An upgrade backs up and restores everything as part of its procedure.

I am doing a back-up using DM. When I go to restore the phone, it does not dowload the 3rd party applications. I always have to go back to the website that I purchased them from and redownload them. Is there a program out there that truly backs up and restores everything on the device? I only want to know of programs that people have used themselves with 3rd party applications. Thanks in advance!

How do I backup my Third Party Applications on my BB? - BlackBerryFAQ

This has worked for me more than a couple of times.

Hope it helps.
