Default Blackberry Storm overheating? - 10-09-2009, 12:00 PM

Ok, so I recentally got the BIS added to my account. I downlaoded a few apps, charged my phone over-night and took it with me today. I signed into MSN and put the phone in my pocket. I took it out about an hour later, and noticed it was really warm, and the battery was down to baout 3/4. I thought this was because MSM was running in the background, downlaoding data etc, so I signed out of MSN. An other half an hour later, I took it out to see if it was any cooler. Still no, and the battery was down to about 50%. I decided to turn off the radio completly to see if it would make a diffrence, and when I took it out of my pocket about four hours later, the battery was nearly done.

What was causing the phone to go warm and use up all of my battery? It never done this before without the BIS for some reason. I really have no idea what's wrong with it!

Thanks for any help in advance!

Mine does the same thing but not all the time while in my pocket. I think it might get warm because it's harder to find a signal. You might also have something else running in the background.

I just purchased the Storm one month ago and have had a few problems with it. Today, without any apps running, my battery overheated. I took out the battery, and put it back in. The battery had drained almost down to 0%.
I really like the storm, but every problem I am having is batter related (life is extremely short even after a 24 hour charge, and I can't use many apps without completely draining it).
I hope that I won't need to put down another $600 to buy another blackberry.

Sounds like a bad unit.

However, messenger applications can place a demand on the battery if you are constantly moving in and out of strong signal areas. I run my messenger program for a couple hours a day but never drain the battery completely.

I recommend you delete ALL applications you don't use. Run the messenger program only and make sure nothing else is running.

One piece of advise. Delete VZ Navigator if you don't use it. That thing always had a mind of its own and when I deleted it, the phone told me it was in use, and I never used it.

Above all. Remember your Storm is a PHONE. It's not a gaming device or all day internet portal. If you run battery hog applications, invest in a charger and second battery.
