Default 3g....? - 11-02-2009, 07:41 PM

What's the difference between 3G and 1XEV? My Verizon storm has only ever had 1XEV.

There's no difference. With OS 5.0, they just changed the indicator to 3G instead of 1XEV, probably to remain consistent with 3G GSM-based devices.

1XEV = 3G speeds.

I have upgraded to 5.0 and it still says 1XEV... any idea why?

What version of 5.0? It might not be a feature in all builds. I've seen it on the Tour, but haven't seen it on the Storm.

1EXEV is CDMA speak for 3G. It has a slightly lower max speed than GSM 3G, but I seriously doubt you'd notice. Average for both is 400-900 kbps. However your speed depends on many factors, most outside your control.

Is there a way to tell what speed I'm getting? Are there any factors I can control that I could change to get a better speed? Also, I get 1xev(lower case letters) sometimes. Anyone know what this means?

Lowercase letters indicate no data coverage. You will only be able to send/receive SMS and voice calls at that point.
