Default Advice on Original Storm - 11-03-2009, 09:50 AM

I bought the original Storm 9530 on Saturday. This biggest problem I am having with the phone is the internet. I upgraded to V5.0.0.328 OS which I believe is the newest version? I have not installed any 3rd party app's on the phone and am only using what came with the phone and find the internet extremely slow and quirky. Using the blackberry home page through the browser I am trying to access pages under news and entertain and find I am constantly getting error's to contact the service provider and video's will sometimes load. My concern is the inconsistency of the phone when accessing information. Sometimes I can access information and sometimes I can't. Is this the phone itself? I am constatnly pulling at least three to four bars under a 1XEV signal, this is the 3G signal correct? I am also getting error's with the camera after using slacker radio. I have even tried removing some app's I know I will never use like vz navigator and visual VM with the desktop manager software and perfomance is not improving.

I'm trying not to expect too much from the storm, after all it is only a phone and not a computer. But, to pay a premium for the plan and not being able to access certain features is irritating. I would consider upgrading to the Storm 2 if I knew the phone performs better but I know no one with the phone. Any advice?

Thanks!

MrsMustang,

I am not a big internet user via my Storm. I've used it once to check for a movie showing and honestly I don't think cellular phones are quite there yet for internet browsing. Other than the occasional field use, I use my phone internet for OTA app downloads and that works fine.

As for a better browsing experience, I have heard from several of my fellow BB users that Opera Mini is much faster and an overall better browsing experience from your BB. My wife uses it on her Curve and seems to like it better than the stock RIM browser. Opera Mini 5 beta is available now. I might just download and try it myself. The link is below.

Give me your opinion!

Cool, I will have to check it out. I have not had any trouble browsing on current software but I think I will give this a try. Faster is better.
