Question 9550 only as GSM? - 11-03-2009, 10:58 PM

Is it possible for me to use the Storm 9550 just as a GSM phone?

I know it is a world phone, with Dual-Mode functionality so I understand that it can use a GSM network for roaming if your service is Verizon Wireless (CDMA) BUT can I unlock the phone and use it with a GSM carrier permanently outside of the US?

Yes, you can.

But you would be better off getting a 9520 (GSM version of the 9550) for that purpose.

Thanks... I know I should go for the 9520 but it will be easier for me to buy a 9550 on Verizon the time I spend in the States, and then unlocked the phone when I go back to my country.... Unless AT&T begin selling the 9520 themselves but as MD said its very unlikely....

Thanks again...
