Default Texting issues after 5.0 upgrade on 9530 - 11-07-2009, 12:22 AM

Just upgraded today. Many improvements but a few frustrations all related to texting. Hope they are fixable but can't figure out how.

First, when I open a text messaging window there is large blank screen at the top of the screen below the name of the person I am writing, but only a single line space beneath it (and next to a really annoying smiley face) in which to write my message. Any way to eliminate the unused space at the top and make the typing area bigger so I can read my whole message rather than having to scroll down line-by-line?

Second, any way to get rid of that emoticom? I have hated smiley faces since the 60's.

Finally, as I'm typing it gives me a long string of suggested words that it thinks I may be trying to type. Not to sound ungreatful for the the help, but I can usually figure out what I'm trying to say without help. If I make a typo, I'd rather have the spell checker tell me before I send the message.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.
