Default 9550 Hotspot browser disappeared

Please Login to Remove!

I was connected to WiFi this morning and noticed i only had the Blackberry internet browser available. When I took out the SIM card and popped the battery back in the Hotspot browser appeared. Was able to surf. Then I put back the Rogers SIM card and now the Internet browser is the only one available even though I am connected to WiFi. I am standing less than 5 feet from the router.

UPDATE #2

Phone is Telus 9550 unlocked by Horizon Wireless. MSL code also provided by Telus.

No SIM card: Hotspot browser available
T-Mobile pay-as-you-go SIM card: WAP browser and Hotspot browser available
Rogers SIM card with Blackberry data plan: only Internet (Blackberry) browser available
Rogers pay-as-you-go SIM card: WAP browser and Hotspot browser available

Would like to use my Rogers SIM card but able to use Hotspot browser at home.

Am I the only one with this problem? Surfing on the data plan when WiFi is available is ridiculous!!!

Talked to Rogers Blackberry support this morning. Basically because it is a non-Rogers device I am on my own. I am willing to bet that if I phone Telus they are going to say that because it is not on the Telus network I am on my own. What a load of BS.

OK, so have you gone through the process as outlined in the Sticky Note at the top of this 9500 section "Unlocked Storm on ATT and Tmobile"?
Unlocked Storm on AT&T or T-Mobile

You will use the EXACT same process for on Rogers, but you'll need the generic Rogers service books instead of ATT or Tmobile.

And, you are correct, Rogers can't support the Storm 9550, because they don't offer that device, and neither will Telus, for you, because you don't have an account with Telus.

Yes I did that process and used the ATT files. Still no dice. Does anyone have the Rogers service books?

Won't work with the ATT service books. I see you know that now.

I have not got the Rogers Service books. Anyone on Rogers can get them for you by this process from an active working BlackBerry on Rogers.

1. Have that user with their device, do a backup of their device using Desktop Manager > Backup/Restore > Advanced.
2. In the right hand window pane you will see the databases on the device. Scroll down to Service Books so that line is highlighted.
3. Click the left facing arrow in the middle to copy those service books over to the PC.
4. Above the left hand pane, choose File > Save As, and save those service books with something like the name "RogersSB.ipd"

Now you have the file you will need to have on YOUR PC, to perform the steps outlined in the Sticky Thread.

JSanders,

Just tried your latest suggestion. It didn't work. Everything is the same as the original post.

Then you haven't completed those steps completely or there was a glitch.
I'm very familiar with this process, I know it works.

I forgot that my 8320 that I am pulling the file from was a T-Mobile device I bought in the US 2 years ago. I will pull the file from my wife's Rogers 8100 tonight. Everyone else here has Telus or Bell Blackberrys.

Ok, pulled the service book from my wife's BB and followed the process from JSanders. No dice. However if I pop out the SIM card I can use the Hotspot browser. Could it be my SIM card?

Baqurian, honestly, simply saying "no dice" is pretty hard to trouble shoot.

If you'll take the time to read the thread in question -- and post IN that thread -- since you are having the exact same questions, you'll see dozens of users who just didn't follow the process exactly right, finally did, and succeeded.

But we gotta have something more to go on that just "no dice". I'm just saying.

Ok fair enough. I did the process 3 times and still the same result. The ipd file was taken from a Rogers 8100 Blackberry with a current data plan. I have the SIM card in my 9550 and verified that I am connected to my WiFi router. The only options I have are Get New Games and Internet Browser. See captured screen attached.

BTW the Bolt browser works on WiFi

JSanders, how different is this process from your sticky?

HowTo:Get All Features (Browser, MMS) Working on AT&T w/Unlocked Storm 95xx - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

1. Go to Options > Advanced > Browser.
At default Browser Configuration, what are you options?

2. That Method 1 process is basically the very same process, it just uses CrackUtil to assist. That Method 2 is almost precisely the same as the one in the Sticky here.

baquian, please follow my question above as stated, look IN the place I asked.

Your screen cap is not the same. That screen cap is of the Browser > Options > General Properties screen.... not the same I asked.

See, with no insult intended, I don't think you are following the VERY specific instructions IN the Sticky post as written.
