Hi, will the storm2 ever use GSM in the United States? This is my first dual band phone. I'm thinking of areas where the CDMA signal is terrible. Or does it just use GSM in other countries where Verizon has a license deal? Sorry if this is a stupid question

I'm pretty sure GSM is there only for overseas use. Verizon doesn't use GSM at all here in the States, and the capability is only included to make it a "world phone," not to provide coverage in spots with spotty CDMA coverage domestically.

My unlocked Storm1 worked with an ATT SIM card (at least phone).
There are stickies at the top on how to use an unlocked Storm in the US.
Just got my new Storm2 unlocked so I will use it with an ATT sim for backup.

Thanks. That's what I figured. Would be nice not to have my battery drain in some places because of getting no signal

With the 9550 having both GSM and CDMA I can now switch between Rogers, Bell and Telus and use my T-Mobile SIM card when I go to the US.

Hi baquiran,

I too am planning to get the Telus 9550 unlocked to use on Rogers. Does the 9550 create any problems on Rogers since it is the CDMA version. I am told that the browser is gonne be slow since it will work on EDGE & not 3G. How slow is the browsing?

Cheers!!!

I am finding the browser on the Storm 2 to be slow regardless of the connection. It is definitely slower than my 9700. However, I added on the Opera Mini 5 beta and am now quite happy with the browsing on the Storm 2. I was actually about to consider selling my 9520 but having a worthwhile browser has me holding on more.

I have been using the Telus 9550 Storm2 (CDMA/GSM) unlocked on Rogers (GSM) since early November. No real issues here just some quirks. Sure the browser is not 3G but its no slower than my 8320. I have been using the Bolt browser instead of the BB browser. At home the WiFi is great. Sure beats an iPhone.
