So I'm really at the point that I want to give up on this device. I am now on my 4th. Probably would have been more if I had turned in the first one sooner. This one froze last night within 4 hours of me getting it. When I took it back into the store today they couldn't duplicate the issue and the tech told me that it was normal for a PDA to freeze. Right. Anyhow when I took it in last night and expressed that I didn't not want another one I was told the best they could do was was to offer me another phone at the 1 year contract price. Not having the money for that I got a refurbished Storm. I feel like I'm being robbed. I don't expect to get another device for free but that seems like a steep price to pay to replace a device that VZW is aware has issues. Anyone have any suggestions for a way I can try to fix this?

When someone reports trouble like this with multiple devices in a row, it is only natural to suspect user error (even with the Storm).

So, let's take that last unit, the one that you had trouble with after only four hours. Can you summarize what you did with it in those 4 hours? Did you restore a backup or do the switch device wizard? Did you try starting clean instead? What aftermarket software did you put on it? What about themes? Have you been using the same microSD card all along? And did you try without the card or with another card? What is the free memory level? ...

The only things I had done with the unit in the 4 hours I had it was send a couple of text messages and place a phone call. I had the VZW rep transfer my contacts for me in store. I have been using the same SD card but I don't think that has anything to do with it since I haven't had a freezing issues on the other 3 devices. Currently my application free memory is at 32.4 MB and my device free memory is at 874.8 where the device has a capacity of 879.2 MB I didn't feel that sending a few texts and making a phone call would stress the device enough to make it freeze.

From your description, it doesn't sound like it's anything you've done.

So there were no third-party apps or themes transferred over to the new blackberry from the old, just contacts?

I've not heard of a microSD card causing intermittant problems, but if it has been a common factor all along it should cause one to wonder. I would want to rule it out as an issue, and remove it for a while and see what happens.

No, no apps or themes. I'll pull the card for a day or so and see what happens. I'm just leaning towards it not being the card since each device has had a different issue. The first would randomly reboot even after I did the first update. The second stopped texting. The button disappeared entirely off of the home screen and it was not hidden. I also could not receive any messages. The third one would reboot almost every time I set it down. It had actually gotten to the point the night before that it had started rebooting when I picked it up as well! lol I guess maybe I just have horrible luck with these things?

Did you keep the battery from the first device and that is the same battery you have been using all along?

It is actually. I haven't been given the option to get a new battery. The last 2 devices I have receivd have been refurbished so I'm not sure if they even come with a battery.

Some of the problems you describe with the first blackberry and then the others make me wonder about the battery, or maybe a battery that is loose. ... The rebooting, especially when the blackberry is moved.
I don't know if that is a possible explanation for your freezing problem now or not. It's another common factor.

Well its not the memory card. I removed that and it froze again today. I guess I'll have to speak with VZW about the battery now and see if that's the problem.

Thanks for the update. I'm doubtful about the battery being the problem, but who knows.

If the carrier doesn't have a solution for you, you could cross your fingers and wipe it, then reinstall the OS. And if there is a newer OS than what you have from your carrier, try that.
