Maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot find anything on how to stop the keyboard from automatically appearing when I open a text message.
I'm not some moronic teenager who needs to answer every message right then and there, I read them, and then reply at a later time(usually). I find it amazingly annoying that to read a long message I have to go through a few button pushes to hide the keyboard, instead of just opening the message and reading. Can I stop this somehow? Or, as I suspect, is my only recourse to go back to the previous version?

you have tried the other method of sliding your finger down the keyboard.

if you touch the top of the keyboard slightly [so you get a blue light] but not enough tp press a key you can then slide down the keyboard and hide it.
