I have a Storm 9530 tied into my desktop on a Windows 2008 Server. I am unable to open most email attachments incl Word, Excel, and pdf file formats. I was told that there is a compatibility problem with RIM and Windows Server 2008, and that the Server is blocking these attachments, but our IT folks cannot do anything with this situation. Any suggestions?

Lots of problems.
get desktop manager in stalled and see if you have the attachment service loaded
then also look at Documents to go its free
How big are the files you are looking at?

Are you on 5.0 OS on the storm?

I am on 5.0 OS, and do have Documents to Go. Can't identify "attachment service" from within desktop manager, but reasonably sure it is loaded. Attached files are small, i.e., under 100k.
