You need a BlackBerry data plan.

And welcome to the forums.

It is different; you will need to contact your carrier regarding pricing.

is there any third party application that will allow me to get access to hotmail.

my carrier virgin in the UK wont give me the blackberry data plan unless i take out a new contract with a new phone which is pointless as i already have one and only need the blackberry plan activated - so if your in the UK dont bother going to virgin with a blackberry phone as they wont do it

You have a contract pay monthly? They should activate the blackberry data plan, as you pay extra, and they like money.
Keep calling till you get someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about.

People have had BB data plans activate on virgin uk before, so they do do it.
