Default Apps for Storm Thread

Please Login to Remove!

To the Mods:
I suggest that a sticky thread be started for discussion of apps specifically for the Storm. I think this is warrented as some apps work pretty well while others have not been fully adapted for the touch screen and/or landscape mode.

Example: BlackBerry Maps works well with the Storm in both vertical and landscape mode. Both Google Maps and Bing Maps do not.

The discussion would include the version number and any comments specific to the app such as a trick or setting that makes it work better than default.

Well I would like to name my fav. apps that work great for the Storm...

- Opera Mini 5 beta 2 (nothing to envy to Safari)
- PatternLock Lite
- Slacker Radio
- Guitar Hero World Tour (though some times it lags)
- PBA Bowling 2 Lite (this is the 1st game Im willing to pay for... really)
- Aces Traffic Pack Lite (pretty good but could be more responsive)
- GPSLogger (built by some fella from this forum, great gps logger, better than BlackStar)
- Level

PS: Tip for Opera Browser... If you want to scroll more smoothly/precise up and down through a web page, dont move your finger vertically, do it in a diagonal way.

@TBOLTRAM "Example: BlackBerry Maps works well with the Storm in both vertical and landscape mode. Both Google Maps and Bing Maps do not."

How come Google Maps does not work well?

The only issue I have found is the over responsive scrolling...

Google maps does not go landscape when I turn the Storm on its side. Also the keyboard does not go away. The area of the map is about the same size as my old 8830. ver.3.2.1

Bing Maps uses the whole screen and I can turn the keyboard on and off. However when I turn the Storm on its side the program does not go into landscape mode. ver 1.0.3588.4316

That is absolutely odd... I have been using Google Maps for the last month and it works great... Im not from Houston and the App has helped me find every place I intended to go, portrait and landscape... I have to go to pasadena 2 days a week and I use it almost every day...

My 9550 OS is 5.0.0.320 and Google Maps version is V: 3.2.1 (#3230), oddly enough the google maps app say: "platform: Blackberry-9550_v4_7" so its meant for older version

I have not tried Bing yet, find it redundant and BB Maps sucks where I live in south america so I always delete it...

Im Attaching 4 pics I took (sorry for quality it was taken with my pearl flip)

My screen looks like your second shot, keyboard that I cannot get rid of. There is no Show Keyboard command on my rolldown menu. Odd. I have looked through the settings to see something I could change but no luck.

I am running OS ver 5.0.0.320

It might be easier for us to make a list of those apps that don't work well on the Storm.

Google Maps works great for me on the Storm, none of the problems you've mentioned. v3.2.0

Default Found Problem

Found the problem. When the program was loaded Compatibility mode was enabled. I disabled Compatibility mode and Google Maps now works.

Options
Applications
Highlight Google maps (do not push to pull up properties)
Menu key
Find Compatibility Mode option and change to disabled.

Something to check for if a program does not act right.

For what it's worth, I think a sticky would be a good idea. I'm also a former Treo user, new to the Storm, fairly new to BB in general. One thing I missed when I initially switched was all the apps. I think a sticky would help get the word out, and maybe eliminate the need for threads asking the same question over and over. Just my $.02.
