Hi all.

I have two mail accounts on my 'Berry: one for work called "work" through the BES (BES Express, latest version), and one for personal called "personal" through BIS.

I'm able to customize the alerts for "Personal," but "Work" doesn't appear as an e-mail account in the sound profiles.

Anybody have any ideas as to why that might be so?

I am confused about what you are trying to accomplish. I too have BES and personal email.. in fact I would think that MANY folks on this board do. Anyway, I have no issues setting up different sound profiles or alerts. Just select NEW profile. If you are trying to assign alerts for various emails/texts/calls you receive from various senders, then do so under "set contact alerts".
But it is more that likely that I have not understood what you are trying to do...

Do you have an account called "desktop"? The desktop account is your BES mail.

Actually, in a brilliant flash of inspiration (bwahahaha) I had the service books for my BES account resent and resent the service books for my personal account and all was well.

Like so many other problems, it was a service-book issue.
