Default Tethering Mac to Storm with Verizon

Please Login to Remove!

I've been reading many threads, but most are from a number of months ago or even earlier - just wanted to ask the updated question - MUST I have a tethering plan in addition to my Blackberry Data plan on Verizon!?

Someone on another board (a vacation site - not blackberry) said she does it without the plan but I haven't seen anyone else confirm that. I am able to go through all the steps of connecting but get an error message

A modem error occurred. Please verify your settings and try again.

is this due to set up problems or is it because I am not subscribing to the tethering plan????

I'm goign on vacation in a couple weeks and hope to be able to accomplish this just to check emails and upload photos for the week I am gone without paying the $10/day internet connection fees at the hotel.

Moved to the 9500 section.

According to what I have read from Verizon, you need the tethering plan. Otherwise, you just might end up with a huge, unexpected data charge.

Did you read our FAQ article on "How to use your BB as a modem"?

Thanks. I did read that FAQ article and didn't see anything that refers to using a MAC (very different directions) nor the storm. and again, I am not always sure of the date on articles and didn't know if something new had come up since someone just described a couple days ago being able to use verizon without the plan. she doesn't have a MAC tho so I was just trying to determine if my issues could be related to the MAC connection or if it is most likely just the tehtering plan issue.

Might check the Mac section then.

Wirelessly posted

The way you described your attempt, yes you need verizons tethering plan. There are third party apps to do the same. The one I use with my mac and tour is "tether" which is also sold at at verizons store.

I can only comment on my set up. Storm 9530 OS 5, Mac PB 1.5G OS 10.4.x, Tethered via Bluetooth.

I set up a new PPP network connection.

Account#: [email address]
Password: (for the life of me I can't remember... it might be your phone number. Should be able to find this online... I did at the time I set it up.)
Telephone #: #777

On the BB: turn OFF Mass Storage Mode - Options>Memory>Mass Storage Mode Support

I have been using this exclusively for 2 months now
