I have my old Storm 9530 running 4.7 os and wants to Update to 5.0 before i sell it. but forgot to do it before i deactivated my service. Is there a way i can update a BlackBerry to 5.0 with it being not activated.

Actually, there is a message somewhere here on the forums (I'll let you search for it yourself) that discusses a method which involves installing an older version OS on your computer; then installing the 5.0 OS; deleting files in the 4.X installation directory but keeping the directory itself; moving files from 5.0 directory to the 4.X directory; using loader to install.

It does work because I used it to update my 8900 which is not currently activated. (Or it did for me last month anyway.)

Download 5.0 and use your DM to install 5.0

If you aren't doing it OTA I don't see why you can't. I reloaded 5.0 with a bricked Berry in March. In essence, I did this without service.
