Comparing Curve 8330 to this new Tour? -
06-11-2009, 01:26 AM
Can someone shoot me a quick spec comparison between my current 8330 Curve to the New Tour.
Im with bell, and am wondering if it will be worth the switch.
Main concern is speed.

Based on Crackberrys Review of the Tour, the Tour will have the same processor as the Storm, a 528Mhz processor but will take on more memory of 130megs like the 8900 Curve. The Curve 8330 has a processor speed of 312Mhz.

The enhanced display alone would be enough to switch.
-->BB 7130e-->Palm 700P-->BB 8830-->iphone-->BB 8310-->BB 9000--> iphone 3GS

The other big difference is obviously the gsm radio it also has, really this device is more comparable to an 8830 than an 8330.

Yah its suppose to be the replacement to the 8830, but the OP wanted a comparison of the current model he has, 8330, to the future model, the 9630.

i've got a new every two up since april, i have been wanting to get a curve, but the tour is very tempting. i can get a curve for $50 with my NE2. i'm torn between waiting to see what the intro price will be and my busted up 8830. the 256mb is a HUGE reason to wait.

Red Curve 8330m .... all the way! -
06-19-2009, 10:25 AM
Curve 8330m is my choice!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just finished handling the RIM BlackBerry Tour 9630 and compared it to my RIM BlackBerry Red Curve 8330m and just for the feel in the hands and the looks of both, I have to stick with my Curve.
The Tour is slightly longer and thinner then the Curve. The width is the same but seems narrower because of the thinner and longer profile of the Tour. The Tour just doesn't feel as good in the hand. (I use my Curve in an OtterBox Defender case which even adds more length, width, and thickness, but I took it out of the case to compare the two side by side.)
Also, I do not like the looks of the Tour compared to the Red Curve. The red makes the Curve look richer and not as cheezy as the Tour with the chrome color around the black. Also being the Tour is a bit longer and thinner, the overall profile doesn't look good, in my opinion. The Tour doesn't look as well built or as solid because of the slightly different size and chrome color framing. Kind of looks weird.
As far as the Tour's operation goes, I didn't really get to play with it much other than even though there are more pixels in the Tour's screen images, I didn't see much to any difference in clarity or beauty of the background or wallpapers.
With this all in mind and after I compared the two in hand, I must stick with my present red Curve which gives me everything I could possibly ever want.
Curve will remain my choice of the two.

That extra 0.2" of length makes all the difference in the keyboard. Gimme that Bold style keyboard and the overall (mostly) dimensions of the Curve!

The 9630 a coworker of mine has is running 4.7.135. I like it overall except for one thing - the trackball. On my 8330 the trim ring is concave allowing for a good feel for what seems like the top 30 percent of the ball. On the 9630, the ball is embedded in a flat plane and it feels like barely 10 percent of the ball is available; I assume this is something folks maybe complained about when the Bolds first came out. I think I just need to play with it more, see if I could used to it.

could anybody use their tour and check to see if you can stream live media from Bloomberg.com
it is a WMA source and no other blackberry can stream a WMA source. this would be a HUGE improvement IMO!
thanks

I noticed that too with the Tour I handled and compared it to my Curve 8330m but was thinking it may have just been defective or not set in right. But now that you mention it that maybe another deal breaker.
The Red Curve 8330m I do like much better than the Tour.

What I find interesting is that the 88xx type keyboard on the 9630 was seen as a weakness on the 88xx models, I now see it as a strength

Now that I think of it, the trackball in all the bb's is the same hardware unit. It's just that the bold, 8900 and tour don't have that chrome outer ring. But, you can still see the inner casing ring around the ball, so the same amount of ball is still exposed. maybe not having that concave outer ring makes it feel different.....

With so many phones possibly coming out by the end of this year, I wonder what the other manufacturers are going to be bringing to the table to make a few of us remorse on the decision to buy the tour.
Even with its problems, I love my curve which makes it hard for me to switch because I am used to it. One thing that is a concern for me is the trackball. My sisters bold and recently my curve both had the trackball stop working going in the up direction. She had to lock her keys and rub it against her pants (per advice she found when researching the problem online) whereas I simply took my ball out and cleaned it up. How hard do you think it will be to clean/replace the trackball on the tour when lint and gunk builds up inside of it?

+1 on that!
Everytime I look at a 8300 series, the screen seems too crude!
It's like the jump from the 7200 series to the 8700 series.

I occasionally watch a movie or 2 on my BB so the screen is definitely a plus.. Along with a quicker application switcher haha

Really the 9630 comes with a 1400 Amh battery while the 8330 came with 1000 I would think battery life would be improved yes??
