Default Help please

Please Login to Remove!

I currently have a HTC PPC 6800 (Mogul). I am up for renewal and I'm strongly thinking about getting the BB Tour. I'm very interested in the calendar of the Tour. I would like to know if its similar to my HTC. My HTC runs off windows mobile, it syncs with outlook. The home screen on my phone shows with in a week of upcoming appointments. I would like to know if the BB can do that as well. I've heard there are certain themes you can chose to do this but I havent been able to find any information on this? If so can you tell me how or show me screen shots of this? Or do I actually have to click on the calendar icon to view my appointments? I am very forgetful lol so my calendar is very important to me. Any help is appreciated. I just want to make sure I make the right decision of buying this before I get it. I'm also looking at the getting the palm pro which is about the same as what I have now.

Yes, BlackBerry devices can (and do very well) sync with Outlook.

As for the calendar showing on the main screen, that depends on what Theme you select to use on hte device. Some Themes do that, some do not. The Themes I've seen that do this display the current day's appts, an maybe the next days, but not an entire week.

There may be one out there though, you'll just have to look around.

How do I find these themes? Are they only available on the phone or online? I would like to look at them before I buy. I've been to the local stores but the people there can't tell me anything about how the phones work. So frustrating.

You really just need to look around. Check the Media Section here, or theme sites like Themes4BB or BlackBerryOS.

I'm using one on my Tour from BlackBerryOS that I love. You can see it here:

BBampd - Tour 9600 Edition - Now Available!

When you have the Calendar icon as one of the 'main' icons (and rollover the icon) you'll see the next 5-6 appts you have.

Reminds me...I need to make a donation for this one.

One other question please. When you choose a theme can you still use a personal picture as a backround pic? I have a pic of my son that I would like to use.

Again, it depends on the Theme, but for the most part, I don't think you can customize the background.

If you offered to pay a Theme developer, they would probably be willing to make a custom them for you, which may allow you to change the background or put a static pic there for you.

Huh? You can absolutely change the background image.
UNLESS the theme developer denies access to it, which most don't.

The only part you cannot change on a theme is the background image for the main APP screen, unless the theme developer has enabled this, which most don't.

That's the screen I was referring to.

But background was a loose term.
Particularly for a BB newbie.

Seriously? You're jumping on me for this?

'Background' was the term used by the OP, and while I'm not a theme developer, when I think 'background' I am thinking of the MAIN APP screen of the theme.

Other people, specifically theme developers, or yourself, are thinking of a different screen for changing the picture that resides behind all the icons (whatever that screen is called, if not background).

Maybe I should clarify what I'm looking for. On my HTC I have a background picture of my child. I am able to customize my home screen to display this picture and only show how many sms and email message I have. Then below that it will show my upcoming appointments. I can of course click my appointments and it will take me to my calendar or click my messages and it will take me to them. This is what I'm looking for. I know the Palm can do this as it runs off the same software as my HTC. I've never used BB before and would like to, I'm just not to familiar with what it can do. I've spent days trying to research this and can't find anything so finally I decided to just ask the forum.

That's what these forums are for - asking questions and getting answers so you know what you're getting into before you find out you can't do what you want to do.

As for the themes, some allow changing the background, some done. When you find a theme, the developer will many times list what is customizable about it. Icons, background, font, etc.

If you have a question about a specific theme, you can always ask the developer via email or PM. They are more then happy to help you out.

No Im not jumping on you for this.

Main app screen? I.e (to you) the screen you see without pressing the menu button?
Generally its known as a Homescreen
As the Main App screen is the screen with all the apps listed when you press the menu button.

(this is how ive learnt it as from reading instructions here about problems etc).

OP: Yes you CAN change the HOMESCREEN image to whatever you like.

To answer your question I have changed the image from a theme I downloaded before to a personal picture with no problems. You keep all the other features of that theme just the picture changes. But again like it was said that is dependent on if the creator of that theme allows that change. Some lock it out.
