Software For BlackBerry® Tour (TM) 9630 smartphone

From Appalachian Wireless; This will load to any carrier's 9630.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.7.1.117 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.7.1.117
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.7.1.61
* Software Platform: 4.1.0.75
* File name: 9630AMEA_PBr4.7.1_rel117_PL4.1.0.75_A4.7.1.61_Appa lachian_Wireless.exe
* File size: 102.16MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download from Appalachian Wireless: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...C4C1BAAE25D6AF
Download from Bell Mobility: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...646D38BC2145CA
Download from Bluegrass Wireless: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...821DC88FEA0631

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the AppLoader says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Ok, now I'm picturing a goat with an antenna strapped to it's back, running up and down the mountain, while people are chasing it trying to get a signal.

I think I need more sleep.

Probably bug fixes more than anything...only time you will see a major difference between OS builds is when you jump from say 4.7.1.xxx to 5.0.0.xxx

I am reposting this question from another forum:

Can anyone comment whether there were any bluetooth issues (voice quality) with .61? The reason I am asking is someone mentioned they were rolling back to .57 as bluetooth quality was worse with .61. Given that RIM released 4.7.1.57 (.110 build) for Sprint which I already loaded this AM makes me wonder whether to stay with .57 or try the .61. I don't want to go through the hassle of updating to an OS version not officially released for my carrier (Sprint) if there are issues with it such as BT problems.

So I'm hearing that .61 fixes the volume thing.... How do I download and load this for Verizon users (without whacking out my VZW account and messing up my Exterprise Server??)

Follow the instructions in the first post of this thread to install it.

Yes, it will dis-associate your device with the Enterprise Server and you will need to perform an enterprise activation for your device to work with the BES again after the upgrade. No way around it.

OK... but i won't have to do anything with Verizon, right? And as for the Enterprise Activation... does the office environment need to know anything? Or does that only happen when I move to OS 5 later on?

If you also have personal email set up on your device, you may have to resend your service books from your BIS account.

Yes, the 'office environment' will need to know - they have to set and give you the activation password. You may want to talk to them before you upgrade.....

Has anyone had any success installing .61 from a Windows 7 machine? I tried it on two separate computers. Desktop Manager and Loader.exe didn't see it. I ended up running the install on XP and it ran flawlessly.

Got it loaded after a few attempts. I had to reinstall several apps (and find the activation codes). It seems to be working fine but I will wait until tomorrow to test the BT call rather than call myself .

Don't use Desktop Manager - instead do what the instructions say (*step 3):
Quote:
  • 1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
  • 2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
  • 3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The BT volume (in my ear) had been insanely loud for me on all previous versions, but it is slightly more reasonable on this one (I still have the volume at only 1.5 - 2 but that is instead of .5!).
I have had no problems with people hearing me with this, or any previous versions though.

I am not having any success. I have followed the instructions and deleted the vendor.xml and it is like my phone isn't recognized. When the loader.exe is running my phone doesn't appear so I can't click next. I close out of the loader and open BB desktop. My phone isn't recognized since I loaded the installed the new OS. I uninstalled the new OS and BB desktop still doesn't recognize my phone. It did right before when I did a backup. Any ideas on what to do?

I am having the same issues as you have described. Once I run loader.exe it does not recognize my phone. Only solution at that point is to uninstall everything and then reinstall desktop manager to get it to recognize the phone again.

If you don't plan on installing it again then there is no need for it. You can even delete Desktop manager heh - they are only needed if you are going to use them

I found a solution to apploader not recognizing the phone after installing the new OS. After installation of the upgrade OS on your computer, go to Add or Remove Programs, Highlight Blackberry Desktop Software and click change or remove. Click next on the screen that says Modify, Repair, or Remove, then choose repair and let it repair your Desktop manager. After repair operation Desktop manager will recognize your phone and you can proceed with upgrade.

That ones interesting. I too had this problem. I went back to retrieve my old BBM and would not recognize my tour for anything. I remembered reading about this in the forums, I opened up memory and enabled mass storage mode. Worked the first time and I got my BBM back quick and easy.

Default which is better - 11-10-2009, 12:02 AM

Which one of the three files is "better"? The goat, the bluegrass, or the bay?

I am upgrading to a tour tomorrow (atleast according to UPS I am) from my 8330, and I will be wanting to upgrade the OS before I do anything else to it.

I know overall functionality wise, it doesn't matter which one I use as they are all the same version, I am just wondering if anyone has had better luck installing one over another...

Thanks.

Ray

They are all the same version. The only difference between them is the Vendor.xml file. Which you will be deleting anyway. So pick any of them.
