Default Email from RIM says 5.0 is available for my Tour - 10-28-2009, 01:53 PM

This morning I received an email from [email address] that said in part:

An update of BlackBerry® Device Software version 5.0 is available. This update includes optimizations and enhancements approved by your wireless service provider. Note: If your device is associated with an email account that uses a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, contact your administrator for more information about updating.

When I follow the directions to get the update, I get an error:

You cannot update your software using this system as your device is currently activated on BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software. Please contact your administrator for updates.

Help? I just got my Tour yesterday from US Cellular. It is on BIS.

It's a generic email message... not specifically addressing any device in particular.
OS 5.0 was only released for the Storm 9530... not the Tour.

I got the exact same email as well, try to upgrade this morning, but nothing... The current version on my phone is 4.7.1.40. Is this the most current? Everytime I try to do a wireless upgrade it says no upgrade.

Nope didn't miss your post at all, as your post was stating about the email was generic and sent out to all. I simply stated that I got the email and was wondering if I had the most current software on my device.

Default Tour software update - 10-29-2009, 12:20 PM

Last night BDM indicated that I had a OS update (to 5.0) available for my Tour. I generally proceed slowly with OS updates, allowing others to be the guinea pigs and post their results in forums such as this, so I decided to wait until this morning before even considering downloading. This morning I connected to BDM again and found an update to BDM available...no mention of a Tour OS update. I did download the BDM update with the following results:

1. The BDM update seems to have installed a program called Software Manager (Macrovision Europe Ltd.) without my knowledge or permission (doesn't that just piss you off?). I didn't see the program listed in either Control Panel/Programs & Features or in Revo Uninstaller (using Vista 64-bit), but found an uninstaller program through Google search. I ran the uninstaller since the Software Manager program seems to be unnecessary. Make your own decision about keeping or uninstalling it.

2. The updates to BDM appear to be minor. One change I don't like is that there is no longer a highlighted link to "check for updates" in the lower right of the Blackberry Desktop Manager main page. Instead you now click "Help" in the upper right to find "check for updates".

3. There is no longer an update to the Tour OS listed. Others have indicated that the OS update was intended for Storm users only, and was inadvertently sent to Tour users. Not sure about this.

I would appreciate input from others about this...thanks in advance.

Were any of you that got the email previous Storm Owners?

I read in another thread or forum that previous storm owners are getting this email, even after they changed to a Tour....

Just curious....

You received comments with no substance per usual...what they meant to say was check the 'sticky' at the top of this forum and you will see that 4.7.1.61 is available.

That user didn't ask a question.

That user made a statement which was 1) inaccurate and 2) in direct contradiction to post posts giving correct information above in the thread.

Being helpful and 'correcting' someone's statement and guiding them to the source of the accurate information is what you should do when responding to a comment you feel inaccurate OR a question. That's the purpose of this or any other forum....to HELP people. Insipid comments have no place here. Wrist slapping is childish........source considered. I suppose it would make you feel better if the person apologize for his oversight. yawn................
