Default Headset/Call Issues - 11-01-2009, 10:48 PM

About a week ago I stopped being able to hear people on phone calls and they cannot hear me. I dont have mute on or anything but my BB seems to think I have a headset plugged in when I dont. I use headphones to listen to music with the Pandora app and iHeartradio. When I plug in my headphones I can hear someone on the other end of the call. Speakerphone will not activate and when I try to use voice dialing it wont work. I have performed several hard resets, left the battery out for about 10 hours while I slept. I have also tried different ways of getting the phone to recognize that I am taking the headphones out. I could really use some help because what good is a smart phone if it cant perform basic phone functions? I own a Tour 9630 on a Verizon network. Any suggestions are helpful and welcome. Please let me know if more info will help.

I'm not certain, but it sounds like you have a bad hardware switch in the headset jack. It might be (don't quote me) that the act of pushing the headset plug in and out has messed up the contacts somehow and the phone is not switching from headset to handset mode (it's likely a hard switch that does this, just like plugging headphones into your TV at home). One thing to check is when you have the headset plugged in, can you hear and be heard from the regular mic/speaker on the phone? What about Bluetooth... does that work when the headset is plugged in?

Yeah, I kinda thought that it might be something broken in the jack. I cannot hear or be heard from the phone mic/speaker. I can only hear from the headphones, but its not like a heastset(with a microphone), they are earbuds. Im not sure what you mean about bluetooth working with the headphones in. I dont have bluetooth accessories but the bluetooth connection doesnt have a problem registering with them in.

In my opinion, since its a tour I'd assume its still under warranty for that 1 year period. I would simply return it to the provider and explain the problem. I had a similar problem with one of my curve's so I returned it and they replaced it for free.

You'd be amazed at what a hard reset can do

I also considered that. I just would rather not go in and trade it. My verizon store is kinda dumb, as in the people there dont really know what they're doing. I bought my phone while I was in Georgia, I live in Cali, so I dont want to have to deal with whatever complications may arise. It shouldnt be a problem, but I haven't been exactly satisfied with the service I get when I go in there.
