Default VZW tour and google maps...too much waiting - 11-02-2009, 10:17 PM

Does anyone else's google maps get repeated spinning clocks (10-20 seconds) when it first opens as well as randomly while you're using it? Makes it tough to use, especially when your passenger is relying on it to provide directions.

Never happens on my curve.

It was happening to me and I downloaded the new GoogleMaps version. If u do have it, then what version Os are u running, and how much memory do u have?

This definitely isn't a Verizon issue. My Sprint Tour does the same thing and I have 80mb free also.

Well memory sounds good, could be better but nothing bad where it would cause the hour glass. Can't comment on OS ur using as I haven't played with that...only thing I could shoot for is ask if u have the GPS on or off as on would cause it so search for GPS satellite and load up ur location...anyone else used .53 that have experienced his problem?

Google Maps seems to do that on the Tour, both 4.7.x and 5.0.x, whether 3.2 or earlier. Pretty lame and getting pretty frustrating. Maybe Google wants people to defect to the Droid?

Verizon 7250 > 8703 > 9530 (returned) > 8703 > 9630 #1 > 9630 #2 > 9630 #3 > 9630 #4 < perfect so far!

I have the VZW official OS 4.7.1.40, gmaps 3.2.0 (newest version) and 65mb free.

It's happened on all previous versions of gmaps as well. Very annoying.

Yep, happens to me on .40, .53 and now .61. It's a bit tedious, but the rest of the application makes it worth it to use over Blackberry Maps.

I don't think its Carrier related, I had trouble with lag and gps on mine (your location within 3800 Meters!?). After updating to 5.0.0.230 the GPS actually works and it zips along pretty good. Hopefully once an official OS5 comes out it will run even better.

Might it be associated with acquiring the signal from 3 or more sats?

The new version of Google Maps is slow for me too. Never had problems with the previous versions being slow. I think it's the app.

I'm running OS 4.7.1.57 and Google maps 3.2.0 without problems, seems to run as fast as previous versions. I was just glad that v3.2.0 fixed the gps lock issue I was having.

I didn't realize 3.2.1 was out... I think I might NOT upgrade, seeing as I'm not having any issues currently, and this latest version seems to slow things down??
