I have a user who is upgrading from 8830 to 9630. he OS's are different between the 2 models so i wasnt sure if there would be any problems using the BB desktop manager/new device file transfer option. Any issues arising from this? he main thing i would want to get is emails older than 14 days as if i just activate the new phone, that is all it will get by default.

NOT an issue if its on the older device. You may have better success restoring a backup if switch device option is ineffective.

This was done for me bu the Sprint people...no comment on their expertise!

The problems I had were:

1. If you updated docs2go an older version replaces it. there is a way to
get around this but I don't remember.

2. I had updated Sprint Navigator (version 2.8) on 8830 which does not
work on Tour (it uses 1/4 of the screen). The Tour's version is still
2.1 and I removed the 2.8 version and installed 2.1 by sending
service books and clicking on the Navigation icon.

3. The worst problem was that I was using the classic.mp3 ringtone on
8830 due to the loudness problem. Since this was not one of the
standard ringtonoes it was specifically assigned as custom ringtone to
all my contacts.....it took me a while to figure out why my ringtone
was not changing even though I was changing the general profile one.
Perhaps choosing a standard ringtone before the merge will avoid this.

4. If you installed SprintTV on 8830 I think it is replaced automatically.

I used the Switch Device option on Destop Manager when I went from the 8830 to the 9630. No issues.
