Default Incorrect message count after 5.0 upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

Sometimes when I scroll over the "Messages" icon on the main screen, it displays an incorrect message count (e.g. (1)Messages or (2)Messages) when there are actually no messages in the folder. What's also interesting is that when I open the folder, the heading is blank. If there are no messages in the folder, it usually says "*No Messages*" at the top. This problem appears after I've deleted messages from the folder.

Note: There are no saved messages in the saved folder.

This problem started happening after the 5.0 upgrade. I have a Sprint phone, 9630.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Connect your device to your PC and launch DM. Go to Backup/Restore > Advanced. Highlight the Messages database and click the Clear button.

Also sometimes if you save a message without opening, like sending yourself a forwarded message and you save right away since you know what it is, it does not show in the message folder but since you haven't opened it it shows as an unopened message, showing you what appears to be a false count.

Normally that's true, however the OP stated that there are no messages in the Saved Messages folder.

I cleared the messages database (In DM, it showed no messages. The field was blank). The message count still reads (1)Messages.

Correct. I've checked all the folders. They're all empty.

The problem is kind of random. Sometimes when I clear the messages, it shows no messages. But sometimes it will show 1 or 2 messages, like it's doing now. Taking the battery out resets it, but the problem persists.

UPDATE:
I now see that the message count doesn't reset to zero only if I do not read the messages in the folder. So for example, if I delete 5 unread messages and I scroll over the "Messages" icon, it will still flash "(5) Messages" above the icon when I scroll over it. Weird.

That is odd. Sounds like a bug in the OS. I would wait until another OS is released/leaked and try it, or revert back to your previous OS.

Yup. Aside from this issue, the phone works perfect. What about re-installing the 5.0 OS? Can this be done?

It can, you would need to wipe the device (JL_Cmder) and then reload it.

You will want to create a backup of your data and third party apps. All of the steps can be found in the FAQ's.

There are multiple version of OS 5 out there for the Tour, some better than others. I'm using 5.0.0.419, not the most recent, but stable and bug-free for me.
