im thinking about one of those golf logix apps for golf. i have a practically brand new tour in a box, not on VZW anymore. do you know if the GPS would still work by any chance with a 3rd party app like this ?

Don't think so because I think it downloads map data (unlike standalone GPS which stores the maps on the device).

Yeah you don't need a connection for the GPS to work. You might want to check with the application developer, though, to make sure that the golf application doesn't need it.
