Default Post 5.0 Upgrade Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I recently upgraded to OS 5.0.0.591 (Verizon) and overall am very pleased with the new OS.

A few questions:

1. How can I lock the phone where a password is needed to unlock? I used to be able to use the Lock button to do so, but the only way I've been able to force a password unlock since upgrading is by powering the phone off and back on. Post upgrade, the Lock button only locks the keyboard to the extent of having to press the Lock button to unlock it without a password.

2. BB App World does not recognize any of my prior downloads in My World. How will I know when upgrades are available for my prior downloads if App World does not recognize any of the Apps on my device?

1. The lock icon is only available now when you set a password. With the pw enabled, you should find an icon on screen now.

2. Were they paid apps or free? To repopulate your MyWorld of paid apps, login to your account and/or PayPal on the device to reconnect to your MyWorld account.

Free apps are no repoplulated after an OS upgrade. Just download/install them again.

The Apps were free and paid (but using Handgo and not pay pal) and were reinstalled by desktop manager. Should I unintstall them and then reinstall using App World? Is there any other way to automatically get updates?

SMR, if your apps were purchased with Handango.com, they won't display in App World's MyWorld. Handango and AppWorld are two different stores.

Also, if you disable "dial from home screen" you can use the K key to password lock the device.

You can also lock the phone by using the button on top left corner. You will then have to use the password to unlock it. (I have no idea how this button functions if you don't have a password because I would never use a BB without one.)

That's the behavior in early versions of 5.0 and all prior versions. With the latest 5.0 releases the lock button only keypad locks, even if you have a password. If you have a password, you can either use the password lock icon or use the K key.
