I have a BB Tour 9630 which receives e-mail from 2 servers. The start page displays 3 e-mail icons – all e-mail, server 1, and server 2.
Until a few days ago, I could read / delete messages using any of the 3 icons and when I deleted a message, I was prompted to delete either from the device only, or from the device and server. Now, pressing either icons 2 or 3 reveals “No Messages”, although pressing icon 1 reveals over 20 messages from the 2 servers. Also, when I now try to delete a message using icon 1, I do not get the choice between device only or device and server.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Thanks for your help.
The messages folder shows all message sent and received. The individual email folders, as you see, show just email for that email address. They are the same messages, just different views. Thus, as you have observed, if you delete an email in the main messages folder, it is deleted in the respective email address folder.
The settings determining whether to delete on mailbox & handheld, handheld, or to prompt are controlled by you at messages folder > menu > options > email reconciliation > delete on. Also note the setting for resolving conflicts.
As far as discrepancies between the messages listed in the messages folder for a particular address and the listing in the folder for that email address, do a hard reset and see if that resolves the error. With the power on, remove the battery for 30-60 seconds and then check again.
On the settings, I don't know an explanation other than you were investigating or experimenting and inadvertantly changed it.
Aiharkness - Thanks for your suggestion and useful information on setting mailbox options. Pulling the battery for one minute with the power on did not change anything, but when I deleted and re-established the two e-mail accounts, the problem was resolved.
Good deal. Deleting and recreating the email accounts in BIS was going to be my next suggestion anyway. That, or deleting the email account services books, then resending service books. Glad it's fixed.
