Default Tour in South Africa... Need help

Please Login to Remove!

So my girlfriend is traveling to South Africa on Sunday for the World Cup (yeah I'm jealous). We are trying to figure out the most economical way to use her Tour over there.

People have told her to use skype from her phone, but from my understanding, Verizon still charges network usage to call back to the states even if she has credit on her skype account. Is this correct?

Does this go the same for text messages through skype as well?

I think that an international calling card is probably the best route to go. Any other suggestions that are cheap ways to call/text?

Thanks in advance!

No, Skype can ONLY be used IN the USA. It can call FROM the USA to SA, but not FROM SA to the USA.

She could buy a local SIM in S. Africa and use that to call back to the states. If she is only going to make a few calls/texts, then it's probably not worth the trouble to do that.

Get the global data plan from Verizon, then she can BBM/AIM/Facebook, etc. to her heart's content.
