Default Bold 9650 VZW GPS

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there. I am going away next week and since someone stole my Garmin GPS, I wanted to use my Bold in my rental car to get around. I see that VZW has their propriety nav software that you can pay for by the week or day, but I was curious as to whether any non-VZW apps will work (and are worth it). I remember reading somewhere that Verizon limits your ability to use GPS from anyone but them (or something). Any help with this question would be appreciated. TIA.

Check the yellow sticky in the GPS & Maps section. Also read through that section or search.

Using a BB for directions isn't really a safe thing to do IMHO, since it doesn't talk to you and doesn't do an auto reroute.

If you have someone interpreting and using it for you, then it could work. Best option is still a stand alone unit.

The GPS on the device is not blocked or limited by Verizon, however.

Have you tried Telenav? It talks to you and does the whole rerouting thing. There is a trial version I believe.

There are several alternatives. One good one is to use google maps along with life-in-pocket as a combo.

Here are two free apps that will do the trick for you, they both talk to you, and they both reroute, I have used both with my Bold 9650 and i recommend them:

LifeInPocket: LifeInPocket GPS Mobile Application & Services - Your life in your pocket

Waze: Waze GPS Social Game for Commuters Launches BlackBerry Beta | BlackBerry Cool
