I got a Bold 9700 today. When I loaded on all my contacts from Outlook, each contact was set with the default AT&T ringtone, even though I had set my ringtone for all profiles to be a different one. I really do not want to go to each contact specifying a ringtone, but can't seem to get it to work. Even if I start to create a new contact, the ringtone it defaults to is AT&T. I've searched the forums here and Crackberry and not found anyone with the same problem. So if an unknown caller calls, I get the tone I want. But if someone in my contacts calls, I get the crappy AT&T tone. Any ideas???

Otherwise, I love the Bold - I upgraded from an 8310 Curve.

Go to profiles and scroll down to set contact alerts and see if there are any contacts in there.

messaging -> alerts. Phone ..change your current profile and everything should compile. In fact the first time I did that it asked me if it wanted to make that my default ringtone for all profiles.

Did you migrate your settings (profile) or start new?

If that doesn't work you could do an advanced restore and dump the current profile options and try to reset them to default using the DM

I am having the same problem as jimbobka. All of my contacts are set with the annoying AT&T ringtone. Changing and creating new profiles does not help. I also tried deleting all contacts and re-sync with Google, but it did not solve the problem. I really do not want to have to change them all manually. Shouldn't there be a way set your contacts to use the profile ringtone? Otherwise, what is the point?

What I found now is that if I bring up an individual profile, it shows the AT&T ringtone. But when people call, as long as I don't select that ringtone, the default profile ringtone is, in fact, being used. What is odd is that when I first put this post up, it was because I was hearing the AT&T ringtone when people called when I first got my phone. Don't know what happened since I didn't change any settings.

You are right, now I have the same result. At first, all I was hearing the AT&T ringtone. But now the ringtone associated with the profile is being used, even though it looks like the AT&T ringtone is selected in each individual contact. I won't worry about it anymore!

I dealt with this problem on a Blackberry Bold 9700 with service through AT&T. I spent an hour and figured out the solution. You need to go under the menu where you select the contact's name whom you wish to change the ringtone for. In this menu you will see all of your contacts listed. Scroll down untill you see a contact named "Important Caller". They were smart and assiged this contact profile to everyone that calls you. Change the ringtone under "Important Caller" to whatever you choose or get rid of it all together. This is at least a solution to the whole not being able to change your ringtone away from the stupid AT&T chime everytime anyone calls. I assume this works with other service providers as well. I hope this helps.

Mine works now, but I really don't know what changed. I chose my ringtone in my profile and it now works for all calls unless I set up a special tone on the individual contact record. If I bring up an individual record that I hadn't changed, it shows the AT&T ringtone being the one that will be used, but it isn't what rings. Very odd. Sorry I don't really know what you need to do. :(
