BlackBerry does that out-of-the-box

Just make sure to save the location profiles - that´s it

Yes.

The Blackberry Bold 9700 does this out of the box.

I've configured my Bold 9700 with multiple access points and when I'm in range of the appropriate access point, it will automatically connect to it (so I don't use my carrier's data plan or I use very little of it since some applications will always use the carrier's data plan). When I'm at work, it connects to the access point at work and when I'm at home, it connects to my home's access point. When I'm at a friend's house, it will connect to his access point. It does all of this automatically which is one of the things that I really like.

Has anyone had issues with receiving messages while using wifi. On my 8820 I can turn off the radio and still receive messages (both bes and bis) on the device. On my 9700 I do not (bis only).

I am on BIS and I'm able to get e-mail via WiFi only.

My phone is set to turn itself off every night roughly at the time that I go to bed. When I wake up, I turn it back on. I've set the security options on the phone so that it prompts me for the SIM PIN before it will turn on the radio, however, my WiFi immediately activates (or within a few seconds) of the phone powering on. I am notified of new messages received even when I didn't enter the SIM PIN yet (so the carrier is still off).

I've also conducted the test while the phone was on and just turned off the carrier (WiFi still on) and I am still getting e-mails.

I'm using 5.0.0.351.
